Location : The Corinth Canal is a 6,343m gorge linking the Corinthian
and
Saronic Gulfs. The ports of Isthmia and Poseidonia are at either end and
Occupy some 540m of the total canal frontage.
General overview : Currents change approx each hour and the waterway
is
much effected by NW winds. Canal depth is 8,0m, width at bottom 21m
and 24,6m at sea level. Max width of transiting vessel is 18.3m and draft
7.2m.
Headway below rail bridge is 58.8m and below road bridge 54m.
Canal is lighted at night. Maximum speed of vessels navigating the canal is
6kn.
The Canal is operated by the New Company of the Corinth Canal, based at
Isthmia Corinthias, who will furnish tariffs upon request.
Restrictions : Corinth Canal is closed from 0600-1800 every Thursday
for maintenance. Max size: Max draft is in relation to width in normal
weather conditions at normal water level the restrictions are as follows:
Width 16-16.5m - Max Draft 6.2m; Width 15.5-16m - Max Draft 6.2m;
Width 15-15.5m - Max Draft 6.2m; Width 14.5-15m - Max Draft 6.2m;
Width 14-14.5m - Max Draft 6.2m.
