Construction
methods for wooden Boats , have been changed remarkable since
the last 10 years . New material like Marine Ply Plates and
Epoxy & Polyurethane Glue types , have made life of the
constructor much easier . Although , there is lot of choices
for new material , we are still trying to follow the old
building rules , as much as possible . We are still calking
the planking with cotton and covering hull surface with filler
( non-epoxy ) which is prepared and re-mixed by ourselves .
Hull Planking below 19 meter vessel , generally has a
thickness of up to 36 mm . Vessels above 20 meters have a hull
planking thickness of up to 52 mm . Planking either is being
done classically with a single plank all over and calked in
between all planks , other way of planking is double skin ,
the hull is completely planked with a less thickness of first
coat of planks , then without any calking , the second shift
of planks are polyurethane or epoxy glued onto the first
planking coat .This type of planking , is also practiced with
3 layers in total , 2 x diagonal and last coat straight , this
method is called , laminated construction .
We are still Hauling and
launching all vessels above 17 meters with the traditional
Wooden Slip – ways . Marina type Lifts are not very welcome
for these boats , due to their shape and weight they have . A
launching process of such a vessel of around 25 meters in
length , is taking app. 6 hours including all preparations ,
but still is the safest way of launching and hauling for large
sized vessels. The Boat is set on two longitudinal slip –
carriers and these are connected from 2 positions . Close to
bow and close to stern , to each other from the bottom , with
metal pins . The vessel is standing on these two metal pins
and from the sides being attached to wood carriers. These
slipways are running on wood planks , which have been oiled
earlier , and the whole system is driven by electric capstan
of the yard .
